Lazer Lab Custom Engraving is a company specializing in providing high quality laser engravings specifically, but not limited, to phone cases. Lazer Lab’s services can be applied to an array of different materials which opens a wide range of products.
01 The Goal
For this logo, I had some requirements given by the owner. It had to be a wordmark logo, not completely required but I had to try and make the “Z” in the name like a lightening bolt or a “ZAP” from a laser, and there needed to be an element from the logo that could be separated on its own to represent the brand as well.
02 The Problem
Some of the initial issues I ran into were trying to make a ZAP or lightening bolt out of the “Z” which, after many iterations, I eventually abandoned. To add, creating the bolt out of the Zed would’ve likely resulted in the Zed also becoming the separate element. The lack of continuity and consistency was at stake here.
03 The Result
To solve the lightning bolt/ZAP issue I started thinking about negative space. By using each side of the “Z” ,which lends itself a partial shape for a bolt, I was able to create the necessary negative space into 2 lightning bolts. In addition, the bolt shape was found to be the perfect element to be used as a separate brand symbol because it’s using the negative space and not representing any specific letter, which connects the symbol to the brand name.
